The Arai XD-5 is a completely redesigned adventure helmet featuring a host of new features and performance enhancements. True to Arai’s philosophy, every update is developed with protection as the top priority, bringing the XD-5 even closer to Arai’s ideal helmet shape for impact protection.
One of the most significant upgrades is the new VAS-A visor system and redesigned visor. Derived from the VAS-V system originally developed for the Corsair-X, the VAS-A system is engineered to maximize Glancing-Off performance by providing greater surface area to help deflect impact energy. At the same time, the system allows for quick and easy, tool-free visor and peak installation and removal.
The redesigned visor provides improved visibility while further enhancing Glancing-Off performance. It is also a Max Vision visor, allowing for easy installation of a Pinlock® anti-fog insert for improved visibility in changing riding conditions.
The versatile VAS-A system also makes it easier to customize the XD-5 for different types of riding. Without the need for tools, riders can switch between Adventure, Off-Road, and On-Road configurations, making the XD-5 adaptable to a wide range of riding environments.

- XD-5 Peak: The all-new peak is engineered to enhance ventilation and high-speed airflow while providing a wider range of adjustment for improved sun protection. Its refined design also helps reduce wind buffeting, delivering greater stability and a more comfortable riding experience at any speed
- Three Distinct Configurations: The XD-5 offers three versatile configurations designed to adapt to different riding styles, preferences, and conditions. Change the helmet’s setup before your ride—or even on the go—to match the terrain and environment.
- All-New Shell and VAS-A Shield System: The new VAS-A Max Vision system makes shield changes quicker and easier than ever. The shield can be installed or removed without tools, while the peak is secured with just one screw on each side for simple installation and removal. Because a helmet’s ability to absorb impact energy is limited, Arai focuses on allowing the helmet to glance off impacts and redirect energy away from the rider’s head. The XD-5 shell is designed with a round, smooth, and strong shape to help it more effectively glance off impact energy during a crash, while supporting Arai’s commitment to protection and overall helmet performance.
- Chin Vent: The XD-5 features a mouth-shutter opening that is twice the size of the previous XD-4, allowing significantly more fresh air to flow into the helmet. Advances in shell strength made it possible to increase the size of the opening while eliminating the need for the mesh vents used on the previous generation. The result is improved airflow and ventilation for greater rider comfort in a wide range of riding conditions.
- Inner Shutter: Working together with the mouth shutter, the inner shutter allows the rider to easily control the amount and direction of airflow entering the helmet. With both the inner and outer shutters open, fresh air is directed toward the rider’s mouth for increased ventilation. When the outer shutter is open and the inner shutter is closed, airflow is redirected toward the face shield to help reduce fogging and improve visibility in changing riding conditions.
- Front Logo Vent: The effectiveness of traditional forehead vents can be affected by the rider’s position, but the XD-5’s front logo duct is designed to provide consistent airflow regardless of changes in riding position. Advances in shell technology allow the forehead area to incorporate ventilation openings without compromising the helmet’s protective performance, delivering improved airflow while maintaining Arai’s focus on shell strength and protection.
- AR Spoiler: Positioned specifically for adventure riding, the AR spoiler helps reduce rider fatigue caused by turbulent airflow during long rides. Its aerodynamic design also helps extract hot air from the crown area, improving ventilation and keeping the rider more comfortable throughout the ride.
- VAS-A Max Vision Shield Pin-Lock: The new Max Vision shield maintains the wide field of view and excellent visibility expected from the XD series. The optional Pinlock insert is designed to provide advanced fog resistance, helping maintain a clear view across the entire field of vision—even in challenging and extreme riding conditions. The Pinlock insert is an optional accessory; however, one insert is included with the purchase of the helmet.
- Odor-Resistant: The XD-5 features a premium interior liner designed with a skin-friendly pH level, along with odor- and stain-resistant properties to help keep the helmet feeling fresh and comfortable. The headliner includes removable 5 mm foam layers in the temple areas on both sides, as well as a removable foam layer at the rear. This allows riders to fine-tune the fit for exceptional micro-fit adjustability and personalized comfort. Please note: Once the micro-fit foam pads are removed, they cannot be reinstalled.
- Air-Flap: The retractable pull-down spoiler helps reduce wind intrusion from beneath the helmet while directing hot, humid air from the rider’s breath out through the sculpted leading edges of the cheek pads. This integrated ventilation system works together with fresh airflow from the chin vent to improve air circulation and help reduce shield fogging for clearer visibility and greater riding comfort. An optional ES Chin Cover is available for additional coverage and comfort but is not included with the helmet.
- Communication Device Capability: The Hyper-Ridge® has been redesigned with flatter side surfaces to make installation of a wide range of communication systems easier. The increased bonding area between the communication device and helmet helps provide a more secure attachment while reducing the potential for buffeting, movement, or the device slipping out of position during riding.
- Speaker Pocket: The XD-5 makes speaker installation quick and convenient, with speakers mounting directly to the integrated hook-and-loop panels without requiring removal of the cheek pad covers. Both ear pockets are deep and spacious, providing ample room for thicker speakers and allowing them to be positioned precisely for optimal comfort and sound quality.
- Neck Roll Wire Pocket: The XD-5 features integrated cable-management solutions designed to keep communication system wiring neat, secure, and out of the way. A dedicated pocket provides space to tuck away excess wiring and connectors, while strategically placed openings in the neck roll make it easy to route cables from one side of the helmet to the other. These thoughtful features help prevent wires from becoming loose or snagged when putting on or removing the helmet, creating a cleaner and more organized interior.
